Captain Matthew R. Renner is an AFROTC Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies (APAS) at Baylor University. He supports the academic and leadership development of cadets in the Air Force BROTC program. Working alongside the lead professor, the APAS assists in delivering instruction on aerospace studies, military history, and leadership, while fostering a deep understanding of Air Force values. They provide mentorship, guide cadet growth, and assist in evaluating performance. The APAS also helps coordinate physical training, field exercises, and other activities to enhance cadet readiness for military service. 

Capt Renner enlisted in the Air Force in 2009 as a Tactical Air Control Party member and earned the rank of Technical Sergeant. In 2018, he was commissioned through Officer Training School as a Tactical Air Control Party Officer. He has deployed to Afghanistan three times, including duties as a Joint Terminal Attack Controller at the 807th Expeditionary Air Support Operations Squadron and Assistant Director of Operations at the 817th Expeditionary Air Support Operations Squadron. Capt Renner holds the qualifications of Joint Terminal Attack Controller Instructor and Evaluator.
